Be
Prepared!
Online vs. Paper
Technology continues to change the way we do things. Cell phones are
becoming more prevalent than landlines. Email is taking the place of
voice mail. And how you apply for a job may be changing as well.
More and
more employers are beginning to use an on-line employment application
process rather than a process involving hard copy resume and/or
employment application. Does this mean that resumes are no longer
important? No, it does not. But it does mean that resumes will be used
more selectively. Don’t be surprised if you find that certain employers
no longer accept paper resumes. These employers are probably requiring
employment application on-line ONLY. But this practice is not universal.
So, be
prepared! Bring a good supply of resumes, but also know that you’ll need
to keep track of which employers will want you to submit information
on-line. Don’t be turned off by this new trend…on-line employers
represented at the Regents Universities Job Fair will also be keeping
track of you…and watching for your on-line application in their
databases!
